It is characterized by a brownish haze and elevated levels of ozone (O3) near the ground. Photochemical smog can exacerbate respiratory conditions such as asthma and contribute to cardiovascular problems.
Both types of smog can have detrimental effects on human health, vegetation, and ecosystems. Long-term exposure to smog can increase the risk of respiratory diseases, cardiovascular problems, and even premature death. Smog can also harm crops and natural ecosystems, leading to reduced agricultural yields and biodiversity loss.
To combat smog, regulatory measures such as emission controls on vehicles and industrial facilities, as well as efforts to promote clean energy sources and sustainable transportation, are essential. Additionally, public awareness campaigns and measures to reduce individual exposure to smog, such as staying indoors during periods of high pollution and using air purifiers, can help mitigate its impacts on health.
