When we choose an inferior medium for communication, the effectiveness and clarity of our message can be significantly disrupted. This can lead to misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and a breakdown in effective communication. One instance from my own life that exemplifies this is when I relied on text messaging to convey important information to a friend.
A few months ago, I needed to inform my friend about a change in plans for an upcoming event. Instead of opting for a more direct and personal form of communication like a phone call or face-to-face conversation, I decided to send a text message. Due to the urgency of the situation, I hastily composed the message and sent it without considering the potential limitations of text communication.
Unfortunately, the lack of vocal tone, facial expressions, and immediate feedback inherent in text messages resulted in a misinterpretation of my message. This experience taught me the significance of considering the medium of communication based on the nature of the message and the desired outcome. It emphasized the need to prioritize face-to-face interactions or direct verbal communication when conveying important or sensitive information to avoid miscommunication or misunderstandings.
